Week 31

April 21-27, 2014

How far along: 31 weeks
Total weight gain: The total so far is about 30 lbs! Seeing such high numbers on the scale is so odd for me but I know I am gaining more than I would expect, due to my original weight.
Maternity clothes: Yes, yes, and yes.  I can wear non-maternity long tank tops from Old Navy and non-maternity cardigans.  I have even went up a size in my panties (thank goodness Costco has a good deal and cute designs) but my girlfriends have let me borrow pajama pants (it is only time until I am wearing Will’s).
Stretch marks: Slathering my body in coconut oil and Belly Butter has been keeping away the stretch marks (well of course my family genes play a huge roll too).
Sleep: What sleep?  I have now increase my one night a week of being up between 2:30-4:30 to a couple times a week.  When I am sleeping I am comfortably.
Best moments this week: I had a doctor’s appointment this week and met the last midwife in the medical practice, so I have now met all the midwives and doctor.  I just love hearing my baby boy’s heart beat during my doctor appointments.  This time when hearing the heart beat he was trying to move away from the wand and we tried to follow him with it, it was fun having the midwife follow him.  As of my appointment our baby is laying transversal, sideways, in my belly.  The midwife told me not to worry because he still has space and time to move around and move to have his head facing down.  Clearly the midwife does not know me- saying not to worry is only going to make me worry.  I am now really trying to do yoga every other day to help stretch my body (I love one of the DVDs that I bought for my birthday-thanks Joey).

This weekend Will and I decided that we should but up the baby’s crib and get rid of the guest bed (we have wonderful friends who took our bed).  Will and the boys put the crib together and it looks wonderful in the bed room.  We still need to find/buy a dresser but just having the crib makes me feel a little more prepared.
Miss anything: Sleeping through the night every night.
Food cravings: No cravings but I have been enjoying the Easter candy that my mom sent home with me.
Pregnancy symptoms: Well toward the end of this week I have notice that my ankles and feet feel swollen, and my feet are very tired/sore by the end of the day.  Lucky me the urge to use the bathroom has increased (and my students just roll their eyes saying, “again?”).
Gender: Growing baby boy.
Labor signs: Just the lovely BH.
Belly button in or out: Belly button is out and stretched, but feel very smooth to the touch.
Wedding rings on or off: Wedding rings are still on.
Happy or moody: Extremely happy.
Looking forward to: My next doctor’s appointment and getting the baby’s room more prepared for his arrival.

Week 30

April 14-20, 2014

How far along: 30 weeks.
Total weight gain: Unsure, especially after my shower and eating out while being down south.
Maternity clothes: Maternity tops and bottoms.  I bought some tops and skirts from Old Navy and my sister-in-law also gave me several bottoms and tops to try.
Stretch marks: Just the couple I already have, and lathering with coco nut oil and Belly Butter.
Sleep:  I did not sleep well while down south (boy did I miss my Snoogle, although Wally loved using it while I was away).
Best moments this week: I loved having my mom and grandmother feel and see our baby boy move in my belly.  It was an amazing fun feeling having them feel the baby move.  My dad also drove me and all of our presents up to Humboldt and he stayed for a couple of days to visit.  We did several hikes- Trinidad Head, Redwood Community Forest, and majority of the 5 mile trails on the Arcata Marsh (well hikes to the non-outdoorsy person but walking trails to my dad, the avid hiker).  Also the baby has been having much larger movements in my belly and I love the feeling and watching my belly move (yes sometimes it looks like there is an alien inside).
Miss anything: I have been lucky not to miss any food or drinks.  Although I have had some gulps of cherry soda.  I love the baby movements, but I am starting to get sad knowing that I only have 10 weeks left of having them.
Food cravings: No specific craving but I have been enjoying sweets and yogurt.
Pregnancy symptoms: When walking our hikes I had to stop several times to catch my breath- stretching/yoga stretches or sitting on benches.
Gender: Boy!
Labor signs: The usual BH contractions.
Belly button in or out: Belly button out and stretched and feels soft.
Wedding rings on or off: Wedding rings on.
Happy or moody: Very happy to have had a week off for spring break and spending time with my family and friends.  I am sad to have to go back to work and nervous because the weeks of being pregnant are dwindling and I am feeling over whelmed with things that need to be done before the baby comes.
Looking forward to: Sunday was Easter, and Will and I were excited talking about the traditions we will have as a little family, and the joy we will have watching our little boy get excited during holidays.

Week 29

 April 7-13, 2014

How far along: 29 weeks
Total weight gain:  I gained 5lbs since my last appointment (5 weeks ago) and I am up a total of approximately 25lbs.  Baby’s heart beat was at 142 and my blood pressure was 110/80.  Both the nurse and doctor (yes I finally saw the doctor instead of a midwife) are very happy with my progress.  And I passed my glucose test with flying colors!
Maternity clothes: Everything I wear is maternity clothes.  I have outgrown all of my regular lounging/yoga pants and luckily I have girlfriends who have been gracious to share theirs with me.  I can wear regular cardigans, which adds to my wardrobe choices.  When I go home this weekend I plan to pick up a few more shirts and skirts at Old Navy.
Stretch marks: No stretch marks, but I think I might have seen a very very small spider vein on my calf.
Sleep: I have been lucky not to wake up every night to use the bathroom, but as usual one night a week I am up between 2:30-4:30 unable to sleep.  Watching a television show on Netflix helps me fall asleep.
Best moments this week: My Orange County family baby shower!  My dearest friends Amanda and Erin threw me and my baby boy the most amazing baby shower (and they are super humans to do such great planning and prepping-one is a doctor and the other is a mother of twins!).  I loved spending an evening with friends and family.  Also a best friend of 21 years shared that she is 6.5 weeks pregnant (I believe it is still a secret)!
Miss anything: I am so glad everyone was enjoying wine at my shower, and it was tempting to have a couple of sips.  But there was delicious lemonade for all of us non-drinkers.
Food cravings: No specific craving but at the shower I ate almost all of the lemon cake bites (from Costco so I will be checking our Costco).
Pregnancy symptoms: BH contractions- especially during my train ride down south.  Is growing out of your regular clothes a pregnancy symptom?
Gender: Baby Boy.
Labor signs: BH contractions.
Belly button in or out: Belly button out.
Wedding rings on or off: Wedding rings on but felt tight due to the heat in Orange County.
Happy or moody: Super elated to spend time with family and friends while being pregnant.
Looking forward to: Getting the second bedroom ready for our boy (although also stressful).  I am excited to show Will all the super cute nautical themed clothes our baby got as gifts.

Week 28

March 31- April 6, 2014

How far along: 28 weeks and the beginning of my third trimester!
Total weight gain: My doctor appointment that I was supposed to have this week got changed to next week, so I will find out how much weight gained on Tuesday.  I had a big meal on Saturday (I surprise our waitress that I finished a whole order of nachos-but she did not realize I was pregnant).
Maternity clothes: I have almost out grown my non-maternity leggings and yoga/lounging pants, as well as many of my pajama pants.  Luckily it is warmer at night and I can wear pajama shorts to bed and it is always funny to see a big baby belly in my sleep shirts.  I am hoping the weather will get warmer so I can wear some of my stretchy skirts.
Stretch marks: Not this week, just lathering on coconut oil and the belly butter.
Sleep: Same as usual, just one night of being up fro a couple of hours, but the middle of night bathroom breaks are just once or twice a week.
Best moments this week: During my monthly TK/K report card meeting with the county office the people that I meet with, surprised me with a baby basket filled with lovely gifts for our baby boy.  I had tears of joy of feeling loved and the love they have for our baby.

This weekend we attended a childbirth information class and it was great.  The class was very informative of what to expect before, during, and after labor (who knew you do not need to rush to the hospital right when your water breaks?).  Will and I have a better idea what to prepare for when our baby boy comes and how to help each other.

We end this week by our friends telling us they are expecting a baby in October!  We are so excited for them and now I will have a pregnant friend to talk with.  Also our babies will only be 4 months apart.
Miss anything: Not this week.
Food cravings: I made a smoothie this week and it was delicious!  I am not craving anything specific but I am still eating more than usual.
Pregnancy symptoms: (I changed this from anything making you quesy).  I had a leg cramp in the morning after doing calf raises the day before (that is what I get for trying to exercise).  I have also been having leg growing pains from my bottom down the back of my thigh.  I do not think it is sciatica but I will be asking my doctor/midwife at my next appointment.
Gender: Boy!
Labor signs: Braxton Hicks.
Belly button in or out: Belly button out.
Wedding rings on or off: Wedding rings on.
Happy or moody:  Excited to be pregnant, excited to have our baby boy here in a short couple of months.  But I am known to be cranky if I wake up at 4:00 AM and do not fall back to sleep.
Looking forward to: My Orange County baby shower next Sunday!  I am excited to see family and friends to show off my big baby belly and to have every try and feel the baby move.  Also my baby shower is right at the beginning of spring break so I am very excited to have a week off.  My dad is also driving me and my baby presents back up north and will visit for a couple of days (this will be his first trip to Northern California to visit the Wally Dog Family).

Mini Weekend Getaway

About 8 months ago Will and I and friends booked a mini weekend getaway to Grants Pass for wine tasting.  Little did we plan that I would be pregnant for this trip.  This mini vacation was a much needed break from life and I did not mind driving and not drinking (although I did have little "cat licks" to taste some of the wines).

We started out trip by going to Ocean World.  When our baby boy is older this will be a fun quick day trip to see ocean fish and the seals.

Yep this depicts our personalities.

We loved staying at the Weasku Lodge in Grants Pass.  We started our first night with appetizers in the dining room.

Saturday was our big day of wine tasting.  It was fun driving around Oregon Wineries and looking at the landscapes.  We did not take pictures at every winery but this picture is from the first winery we went to.

We loved our weekend getaway. A side note, the lodge we stayed in was frequently visited by Clark Gable!

We ended our weekend trip by going to the Big Cat Park in Cave Junction.  This was super fun and can not wait to take our baby boy there when he is older (it was hard not to buy a cute stuffed animal for him-but Will says we will when we go back with our boy).

Week 27

March 24-30, 2014

How far along: 27 weeks, and the last week of my second trimester.
Total weight gain: I will find out next week my new weight and how much I have gain since last month.
Maternity clothes: Maternity clothes!  I can wear my regular dresses as tops with leggings.  I tried wearing a regular top and it barely covered my belly.  I am not looking forward to the day when I can not wear my pajama shirts.
Stretch marks: No new ones but I am still lathering up my baby belly.
Sleep: I am lucky in this department, I have been getting great sleep.  I only had one night where I was up for a couple of hours (leaving me cranky in the morning and cranky with my students).
Best moments this week: The beginning of the week I had a coworker tell me she can see a pregnant waddle when I walk- Which I can totally feel since my hips and lower back bones are loosening.  I love that I have the pregnant waddle because I just love being pregnant!
Miss anything: We went wine tasting this weekend-which means I was the driver for Will and our friends.  I had “cat licks” of the wines I thought I would like and if that little lick tasted good, I was sad I could not enjoy a full glass.  Although, I did not mind driving and not drinking, and loved having Will sounding so proud when telling the wineries that I was not drinking because I was pregnant.
Food cravings: I enjoyed the soft chocolate chip cookies our lodge provided us this weekend.
Anything making you queasy: Luckily no.
Gender: Baby boy!
Labor signs: The usual Braxton Hicks.
Belly button in or out: Belly button out.
Wedding rings on or off: Wedding rings on.
Happy or moody: Very happy and loving being pregnant (even though it was hard to find nice outfits to wear this weekend for our getaway weekend).
Looking forward to: I am looking forward to my doctor’s appointment next week and the following weeend our baby shower and being on spring break.
